10/07/23 Big Pond Celtic Colours International Festival Canada
Time: 7:30pm. Age restrictions: All Ages. At Big Pond Community Centre / Fire Hall! This evening’s concert reflects that legacy with an exciting lineup of versatile performers. Gaelic, English, and French traditional and modern songs, as well as original and well-known tunes from Scotland, Ireland, North America, Scandinavia, and Cape Breton will come together for an evening you won’t soon forget. You’ll be transported by the songs and guitar-playing of Dublin-born, North Carolina resident John Doyle. Accordionist, guitarist, and player of pocket-sized instruments Mary Beth Carty is a true entertainer who will have you on the edge of your seat, with Colin Grant and Bradley Murphy along for the ride. And Jocelyn Pettit and Ellen Gira’s playful interaction of fiddle and cello will unite the west coast of Canada with the east coast of the U.S. along the shores of the Bras d’Or tonight. Buy Tickets
10/08/23 St. Ann’s Celtic Colours International Festival Canada
Time: 2:00pm. Age restrictions: All Ages. At the Gaelic College! Celtic Colours’ annual Pipers’ Céilidh is one of the most popular concerts of the Festival, welcoming local and visiting pipers to explore piping traditions, styles, and repertoires through the years and around the world. Allan “The Whaler” MacDonald, of the Glenuig MacDonalds in Scotland, has composed some of the most popular pipe and dance tunes of his generation. Last year, Allan was featured in a special concert at the Piping Live! Festival in Glasgow showcasing compositions from his seminal Moidart collections alongside musical friends Iain MacFarlane, Ali Hutton, Finlay MacDonald and Leonard Barry. So, we invited the lot of them over to share the joy on this side of the pond. Inverness County’s Kevin Dugas and Heather MacIsaac from Antigonish, Nova Scotia, started playing pipes at an early age and continued with the 78th Highlanders Halifax Citadel Grade 1 Pipe Band. Though not playing competitively anymore, Heather has been exploring different styles of traditional music and composition, and she makes her Celtic Colours debut this afternoon with accomplished multi-instrumentalist Mary Beth Carty. In addition to travelling the world as a professional class competitive bagpiper and composer with the 78th Highlanders, Kevin Dugas is a founding member of the traditional piping group Nuallan and will be on stage today with James MacLean on guitar and Mac Morin on piano.
